Itinerary
  • Day 1: Guwahati to Shillong

Arrive at Guwahati airport and meet your driver-guide for the three-hour drive to Shillong. The journey takes you through rolling hills and pretty scenery before you check in to your hotel. In the afternoon, head to Umiam Lake for a serene boat ride at sunset, then enjoy a stroll through Police Bazaar – Shillong’s bustling hub. Dinner and overnight in Shillong.

  • Day 2: Shillong to Cherrapunji

After breakfast, travel to Cherrapunji – famed as one of the wettest places on earth. Along the way, stop to admire Elephant Falls, Shillong Peak and Nohkalikai Falls (India’s tallest plunge waterfall). You’ll also visit Seven Sisters Falls, Eco Park and the limestone formations of Mawsmai Cave. Dinner and overnight in Cherrapunji.

  • Day 3: Cherrapunji & Living Root Bridges

This is a day you’ll remember forever. Trek through lush rainforest to reach Meghalaya’s extraordinary Double Decker Living Root Bridge – formed over centuries by training tree roots to grow across rivers. It’s around 7,000 steps, so expect a challenge, but the reward is worth it. Return to your hotel for a relaxed evening. Dinner and overnight stay in Cherrapunji.

  • Day 4: Cherrapunji to Kongthong (The Whistling Village)

Travel to Kongthong, a remote Khasi settlement with a remarkable tradition: every person has their own whistled tune, gifted by their mother at birth. Spend the day meeting villagers, learning about their customs and sampling local dishes. Dinner and overnight stay in Kongthong.

  • Day 5: Kongthong to Mawlynnong & Dawki

Continue your journey to Mawlynnong, celebrated as “Asia’s Cleanest Village”. Wander through neat lanes, meet locals and enjoy a cup of chai with homemade snacks. Later, drive on to Dawki, where you’ll take a boat ride along the Umngot River – so clear the boats appear to float on air. Stay overnight in Shnongpdeng in a riverside camp or cottage.

  • Day 6: Shnongpdeng to Shillong (via Jowai)

After breakfast, begin the drive back to Shillong. En route, stop at Jowai to see stunning waterfalls, including Krangsuri, Tyrshi and Phephe. Pause for lunch along the way before arriving in Shillong. Take a short walking tour and dine in one of the city’s popular restaurants. Overnight in Shillong.

  • Day 7: Sacred Caves & Sacred Groves

This morning, journey to the Mawjymbuin Sacred Cave, home to natural Shivling formations revered across faiths. Continue on to the Sacred Grove at Mawphlang, where age-old rituals and forest lore are still alive. Return to Shillong for dinner and overnight.

  • Day 8: Shillong City & Cultural Farewell

Spend your final full day exploring Shillong’s highlights. Visit the Don Bosco Museum and the beautiful Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians. Browse for souvenirs at the local bazaar, then enjoy a demonstration of Khasi cooking before a gala farewell dinner with barbecue and drinks. Overnight in Shillong.

  • Day 9: Shillong to Guwahati (Departure)

After breakfast, drive back to Guwahati for your onward flight. Time permitting, stop to visit the revered Kamakhya Temple before your journey home.

What to wear!

India’s diverse climate and cultural norms mean packing smart and dressing appropriately can enhance your travel experience.

  • Lightweight, breathable clothing – Opt for cotton or linen fabrics, especially in warm and humid regions.
  • Modest attire – Covering shoulders and knees is advisable, especially when visiting temples, mosques, or rural areas. Women may find a scarf or shawl useful.
  • Comfortable walking shoes – Essential for city explorations, temple visits, and nature walks.
  • Layers for cooler areas – If travelling to hill stations or national parks, pack a light jacket or shawl.
  • Sun protection – A hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen are essential for hot and sunny days.
  • Loose trousers or maxi skirts – Comfortable, culturally appropriate, and practical for long travel days.

Dressing appropriately ensures comfort, respect for local traditions, and an enjoyable experience throughout your journey.
