1. Assateague Island National Seashore (Day 3 & Day 4)

  • Entrance Fee: $25 per vehicle, valid for 7 days.
    This fee covers access to the beach, nature trails, and wildlife areas on both the Maryland and Virginia sides of the park.

2. Shenandoah National Park (Day 11 & Day 12)

  • Entrance Fee: $30 per vehicle, valid for 7 days.
    This fee includes access to Skyline Drive, overlooks, and all hiking trails within the park.

  • If your travellers plan to visit multiple national parks or federal recreation lands in the United States, the America the Beautiful Pass ($80 annually) may be a cost-effective option. It provides unlimited entry to all national parks, forests, and federal lands for one vehicle.

  • Day 1: Washington D.C. - Getting Started

Settle into your hotel and, why not kick off your adventure with a sweet treat at Dolcezza, a local favourite known for its artisanal gelato and sorbet made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Choose from unique flavours like avocado honey or roasted strawberry.

    In the evening, take a leisurely stroll along the National Mall to see iconic monuments like the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument illuminated against the night sky.

  • Day 2: Washington D.C. - Ice Cream, Monuments & Exploration

    Start your day with something sweet from Nina’s Bakery, offering freshly baked pastries and cakes. After breakfast, embark on a Monuments Bike Tour (included), a guided ride through the city’s iconic landmarks, including the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and Jefferson Memorial. It’s a fun and active way to explore the city while learning fascinating historical tidbits.

    After the tour, refuel with an indulgent lunch and dessert at The Yard Milkshake Bar, known for its over-the-top creations. Spend the afternoon at the National Zoo, where you can visit the giant pandas and explore the leafy pathways.

  • Day 3: Washington, D.C. to Chincoteague, VA (via Annapolis)

    Start your journey south with a stop in Annapolis, Maryland’s charming and historic capital. Stroll along the City Dock, where you can admire sailboats and enjoy the maritime atmosphere. For lunch, we’d suggest Boatyard Bar & Grill, a family-friendly spot offering fresh seafood, hearty sandwiches, and kid-friendly options.

    Continue your drive to Chincoteague Island, famous for its wild ponies and pristine beaches. Spend the afternoon at Assateague Island National Seashore, where kids can swim, spot wildlife, and explore the sandy shores. Wrap up your day with a visit to Island Creamery, frequently voted one of the best ice cream shops in America, for a delicious scoop or two.

  • Day 4: Chincoteague – Beach & Outdoor Fun

    Start your day with an unforgettable Pony and Wildlife Tour with Up The Bay Pony Tours. This guided experience takes you on a scenic boat ride through the serene waters around Chincoteague Island. Spot the famous Chincoteague ponies, along with a variety of other wildlife, including dolphins, ospreys, and herons.     Your first stop is Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a beautifully preserved glimpse into the life of America’s third president. Explore the mansion, gardens, and exhibits at your own pace.
    Note: Advance reservations for Monticello have been made to ensure you can enjoy your preferred tour time.

    For lunch, we’d suggest a stop at one of the local eateries in the Downtown Mall, a lively pedestrian area lined with restaurants, cafes, and unique boutiques. Don’t miss dessert at Chaps Ice Cream, a retro-style diner offering delicious handmade ice cream in a variety of flavours.

    In the afternoon, visit Carter Mountain Orchard, a family-friendly spot where you can pick fresh fruit, enjoy breathtaking views of the countryside, and treat yourself to their famous cider donuts and apple cider slushies. There’s also a play area for kids, making it a great spot to unwind.

  • Day 11: Charlottesville to Shenandoah National Park via Luray Caverns

    Start your day with a scenic drive along Skyline Drive, the park’s 105-mile roadway that offers over 75 breathtaking overlooks. Stop at Hazel Mountain Overlook or Thornton Gap for sweeping views of the rolling Blue Ridge Mountains and valleys below.     Arrive in Alexandria and start your exploration in Old Town, a beautifully preserved historic district with cobblestone streets and 18th-century architecture. Stroll along King Street, one of the "Great Streets of America," lined with boutique shops, galleries, and cafes. Stop by Red Barn Mercantile or The Old Town Shop for unique souvenirs and gifts.

    Lunch:

    For lunch, we’d suggest Virtue Feed & Grain, a family-friendly spot housed in a historic warehouse, serving modern American fare with options for kids and adults alike.

    Afternoon:

    After lunch, take a riverside walk along the Potomac River Waterfront, where you can enjoy views of the D.C. skyline and watch boats glide by. Visit the Torpedo Factory Art Center, a former naval munitions factory turned creative space. This fascinating museum features iconic aircraft such as the Space Shuttle Discovery, the Concorde, and the SR-71 Blackbird. It’s an exciting and educational way to end your trip, especially for aviation enthusiasts.
